While working an overnight shift in September 2011, I started looking for a trip for my May 2012 vacation by googling "Food and Wine Tours Italy." Somehow, amazingly, I found Culture Discovery and booked it almost immediately. I spent the next eight months obsessively studying the itinerary for the trip and getting more and more excited. The trip managed to surpass even my exceptionally high expectations. Our house in Soriano was charming beyond belief -- we stayed at the Vecchio Forno, the "Old Oven." We loved walking to and from the Rocca and seeing the charm of small town Italy. From our daily breakfasts at Cafe Roma -- where one morning Rocky and Spartaco ordered me a cornetto colla gelato to get me started on my many gelatos of the day -- to the ebullient Linda, who always was willing to stop for a drink or a gelato while she told us about the amazing history of the sites we were seeing, we couldn't have asked for a better trip. This trip was truly all-inclusive -- any time we stopped for a gelato or a drink as a group, it was paid for by CDV.

We know that if we had gone to the Tuscany/Lazio/Umbia area on our own, we would never have had this experience. Visiting the Piombaia winery was an experience that I don't think I can ever duplicate. Everywhere we went, we met true locals who seemed delighted to share their homes with us. The wine, the food, the other guests, the staff, the overall experience -- we couldn't have been happier with our trip. My one disappointment is that Michael wouldn't let me bring Carla home with me!
